Squeeze pages are the number one tool for internet marketers who are aggressively building lists. And, as we all have heard so many times before, the real money in internet marketing is in the list. So, building a great squeeze page is clearly one of the skills you need to succeed in this business. Let's talk about what the elements of a great squeeze page are.
The first thing most internet marketers don't understand about squeeze pages is that they are in effect sales letters. There's a transaction you want to occur, just as in selling something. You want to exchange something that should be of value to your customer, usually a free e-book, for something of value to you, their email address. Just as in money transactions, the exchange is not going to occur if the buyer thinks he or she is not getting more then they are giving up. So, the goal is to sell them on the value of what they are getting--your e-book.
The first thing you need for a great squeeze page is an eye-catching headline. Your headline has to promise something of value to your buyer. There are several standard headline formulas that work just as well now as they worked over one hundred years ago, when they were invented.
A few of them are:
These three should get you started. Each of the three relies on deeply ingrained human psychological triggers that buyers can't help but react to.
Next, you have to tell your buyer what they're getting. You can call your giveaway a report or an e-book. Both are acceptable and clear descriptions. If you're in a business-to-business market, then you might call your giveaway a white paper. I often say how many pages long the report is. So my next sentence might be something like:
In this free 23 -page e-book, you'll discover the secrets to quickly fileting any type of fish, from tuna to tilapia.
(I just used the fileting as an example! I don't sell cooking products--although maybe I should!)
Anyway...
The next thing you need to do is to list the benefits of your e-book. Benefits are the results of features. A feature is what something does. A benefits is what that thing does for the person using it.
